It has been my conviction that sculpture has been too consistently employed as a medium for the idealization and glorification of man, and while it may be granted that the interpretation of the human figure will always remain its chief objective, I am nevertheless of the opinion that nature offers many another subject which would lend itself to some strange and exquisite sculptural treatment.
In graduate school, I was more inclined that how I can change the meaning and character of the given\available material. I did my thesis (2003) exploring Wax as material by teasing out some human behaviors .
Let me give you brief introduction about my work which I have been doing from the past 6 years after graduations. (2004-2005) While I was exploring different materials I got deeply involved with the sense of being a female. I realized that I was living in the male patriarchal society where you cannot even walk the way you want. The artist has long been convinced that a new relationship between the sculptor and society should be evolved, a relationship at once more creative and rewarding, one to the other. In the creation and existence of a piece of sculpture, individual possession seems less significant than public enjoyment. Without this purpose the very meaning of sculpture is in question. (2006-2007)Probably each one of us is ashamed of only one thing – our body. As a nation we feel body being a burden that needs to be hidden under drapes or forgotten in some remote corner of our minds. I alludes to this ‘eternal, rather eventual return’ with the postures that make the body as an introvert entity.
(Nov.2008)Girls in our culture are taught not to move their legs and to sit with their legs crossed both in public and private. In my 3rd solo show I focused on the joys of becoming aware of one’s body, Depicting several portions of the body, mainly legs. Groups of two or three legs are shown either crossed or with hands in the middle.
2009-July:My 4th Solo show i use light as material.
This Work explores how different forms of repetition found in every day cultural practices – sawing patterns , architectural designs ,text and writings – seep into artist practice. Informed by working in the context of Islamic culture. Specially the interpretation of women hood in sub-continents using mirrors as symbol. The exhibition investigates an often overlooked route to geometric abstractions and minimalism.
